INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW BOOKLETThe Municipality of Rače-Fram is expanding its offer of organised guided tours of the natural attractions found in the Rački Ribniki-Požeg Landscape Park and the TAL 2000 Botanical Garden. The financial support we received allowed us, in collaboration with Roman Hergan, the owner of the TAL 2000 Botanical Garden, to publish a new edition of the booklet titled Aquatic and Marsh Plants in the Rački Ribniki-Požeg Landscape Park and the Tal 2000 Botanical Garden. The publication of this booklet represents an important addition to the offer of educational services (forest school, field trips, etc.), while also contributing to the development and offers of the TAL 2000 Botanical Garden.

Introduction by the booklet’s author, Roman Hergan:It is rare for municipalities to support a project that wants to publish a booklet intended for educational purposes. The Municipality of Rače-Fram is one of the exceptions.
The recently published booklet is intended for pupils, students, nature lovers – in short, everyone and anyone who wants to get to know the unique plant life of the landscape park and the botanical garden. The pocket-sized booklet contains information about approximately 50 aquatic and marsh plants. It describes various flowering plants, ferns, algae and mosses that grow on wet soil. Next to the short descriptions are drawings made by a Slovene artist – a welcome addition since only drawings from foreign artists were previously featured in the booklet. The terms “red list” and “protected species” are also explained. The geological history of marshes in this part of Europe is mentioned as well.
The booklet will be sent to every school in Slovenia, but it also provides useful information for garden pond owners and those who would like to add a water feature to their garden.
Because the municipality wants its citizens to get to know the park’s many offerings, the booklet will also be available for free at the municipality’s office.
I hope you will take many enjoyable walks through the landscape park. You are also kindly welcome to come visit the TAL 2000 Botanical Garden. On every Sunday until early autumn, you can get all the information you might need about the landscape park there.
