The Pohorje of Fram—a hilly world southeast of the Pohorje Massif, beginning with the vine-filled slopes of Fram and Morje, continuing into the fruit-farming banks of Loka, Kopivnik and Ranče, all the way to the livestock farms of Planica and the woody areas of Pohorje. In the past, Fram used to be a lively town, filled with windmills, sawmills, oil mills and shops at the crossroads of the Pohorje Massif and the Drava Plain. Over 90 water wheels spun on the streams flowing from Pohorje, powering dozens of sawmills, windmills, oil mills, and even a hammer factory.
Today, the village receives tourists who visit farmstays, good restaurants and events, such as “Dan po domače” in Ranče, the blessing on Anne’s Sunday in Fram, the blessing at the chapel of the Holy Cross, and other occasional events. From Fram, you can get to Areh through Planica, or even reach the alpine posts of Slivniško Pohorje through Ranče. Returning from Pohorje to Fram is an especially wonderful experience. In the last couple of years, citizens of the villages of the Pohorje of Fram have become increasingly active, taking bigger initiative for the advancement of their hometowns regarding tourism.
