Grajski trg 14
2327 Rače
Construction of the church in Rače started in 1967 according to the blueprints of Jože Požauk, but the construction was not completed in the same year. In 1969, the fine art painter Stane Kregar finished the church’s exterior walls and painted a mural depicting Jesus and St. Joseph the Worker above the entrance. The church has a non-traditional L-shaped floor plan, two storeys and a gabled roof. A standout feature is the modern bell tower which is detached from the church building.
Stane Kregar also created the stained-glass windows that were added in 1971. These windows depict salvation history, part of which are the Stations of the Cross. The lack of space in the church prompted the construction of an extension in 1980 that was finished two years later.
Because the church is on the first floor an elevator was added in 2004.
In 2011 the church interior was renovated. The most visible addition is the new mosaic of the Miracle of Multiplication made by Father Marko Ivan Rupnik.
The building’s basement is home to a youth centre named Jožefov Mladinski Center.
