The Potnik Spruce
Traversing a brook that runs between the Potnik farm and the Church of the Holy Cross, is a rock marble splint. In the middle of this splint a spruce tree grows (Picea abies (L.) Karsten) with a 240cm circumference and 35m tall. Under the spruce, there is a brook, and the tree is rooted on each bank of it. The spruce is protected as a dendrological monument, its location and size being a very special natural phenomenon.
The Potnik Chestnut
By the Potnik Homestead you will find the chestnut. This mighty chestnut tree (Castanea sativa (L.) Mill.) has a circumference of 800cm and height of 10m. The tree trunk is hollow, and its main top is dry. It has sustained more than one lightning strike, but it is still lush and green. The Potnik Chestnut is a protected dendrological monument, and is one of the widest chestnut trees in Slovenia.
