The TAL 2000 Botanical Garden was established in 1998 and is the first and only private botanical garden in Slovenia. In it you can see:
- The largest collection of (wild) aquatic plants in Slovenia
- The only publicly displayed collection of poisonous plants
- Lesser known medicinal plants
- A small collection of minerals and stones
- Freshwater animals, various types of nesting birds and other curiosities
Other events and get-togethers can also be held at the botanical garden.
TAL 2000 lies south of Maribor, between the towns of Rače and Pragersko, in the village of Zgornja Gorica. There are several ways to get to the garden: when travelling on the motorway (Maribor–Ljubljana) take the exit for Rače or Slovenska Bistrica-North. When coming from the direction of Ptuj (if you take a turn off the Ptuj–Slovenska Bistrica road) make a turn at the intersection for Rače or Spodnja Gorica.
A more detailed description of how to get here can be found on the garden’s website.
The garden’s high season is from mid-May to late September. During the high season the garden is open:
- Every day of the week for groups with reservations (at least 10 participants), according to agreement.
- On Sundays from 14:00 to 18:00 for individual visitors.
Groups with reservations can also visit the garden during the low season. In the event of bad weather, the botanical garden is closed.
More information about the garden, current events, excursions and field trips is available on this phone number: +386 (0)41 572 385, or on www.atropa.si.
TAL 2000 BOTANICAL GARDEN − FIELD TRIPS, EXCURSIONS, EVENTS, GET-TOGETHERS
In the high season, various events and presentations take place in the garden:
- Presentations on animals (turtles, snakes, fish, birds), plants (aquatic, poisonous, medicinal, indoor, cacti), mushrooms, rural crafts and much more
- A special presentation on the preparation of the ancient alchemical sun elixir
In autumn you can also roast corn on the cob, chestnuts and other delights in the garden.
Kindergarteners, pupils from primary and secondary schools, students and various other groups have come to visit the TAL 2000 Botanical Garden over the years. Here they all learned a great deal about freshwater vegetation and animals as well as birds and the various trees found in the forest.
Visiting the botanical garden can be combined with a visit to the Rački Ribniki-Požeg Landscape Park or to any other attraction in the area. You can get more information about the area’s tourist attractions in the garden.
It also offers a selection of interesting souvenirs, minerals, fossils and decorative rocks.
Additionally, closed groups can book an excursion to any of the several local attractions: the Rački Ribniki-Požeg Landscape Park, the hills of Haloze, the mountains Donačka Gora and Boč as well as the largest karst cave in Štajerska – the Belojača Cave. The excursion ends with a get-together and tasting of various herbal beverages in the botanical garden.
Warmly welcome!
